Dry Ice Blasting
Most traditional methods of cleaning require the aggressive use of abrasive cleaners and tools such as wire brushes and media blasting units. Not so with dry ice blasting.
Dry ice blasting safely removes dangerous mould and more
Dry ice is a perfect option for people looking for environmentally friendly and non-aggressive cleaning methods.
What Is dry ice?
Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide, a normal part of the Earth's atmosphere. It is the gas that is exhaled by mammals and absorbed by plants and trees. It is also the same gas commonly used when making soft drinks and soda waters.
Dry ice in the past has been used for many purposes, primarily freezing and keeping things frozen due to its extreme temperature. Dry ice is simple to handle with the use of insulated gloves.
Dry ice blasting with pellets
Dry ice blasting is similar to sand or soda blasting: a granular substance such as sand, soda, or dry ice explodes outward in a pressurized air stream to impact a surface to be cleaned.
But that's where the similarities end.
Instead of using sand or other abrasive media to clean the surface, dry ice blasting uses soft dry ice that sublimates (turns into a gaseous state) on impact. The dry ice pellets create mini explosions that lift the unwanted material from the underlying substrate.
Moreover, because dry ice sublimates on impact, there is no cleaning media to remove, as there is with sand. Only the material that was removed must be cleaned up.
Mould remediation with dry ice blasting
Dry ice blasting is quickly establishing itself as the favoured method of mould remediation. It is superior to cleaning mould compared to traditional remediation techniques because it removes the microscopic layer below the surface on which the mould is growing. This allows the abrasion to scour off spores and discolouration left behind.
By eliminating that layer beneath, dry ice blasting eliminates up to 99.999% of the mould spore and other organic contaminants from the surface.

“...thank you and your crew for a job well done…the couple are elderly and were away on vacation. Everything in their condo was very satisfactorily and all the people I met were friendly, professional, and caring. I had to let my friends know what happened in their condo prior to their return home…they were more concerned until they saw their place and then they had difficulty trying to see any damage. In fact they only noticed the nice new ceilings in the kitchen and dining room.”
