Odour Remediation: Our Restoration Process & Steps You Can Take
DKI-Pro Pacific has the experience and equipment to help deal with many odours, from smoke, to animal feces, or mould.
Due to the nature of the restoration business, it's safe to say that the staff at DKI-Pro Pacific come across more than our fair share of unpleasant odours.
Some odours are a result of another disaster, such as mould after a flood, or smoke after a fire. We also deal with a variety of other odours caused by human or animal waste, or where a hoarding situation causes a back-up of rotting food waste.
No matter what type of odour you need to remove, you can trust the expertise and professional equipment provided by DKI-Pro Pacific to provide a fair a reasonable assessment of your situation. Keep scrolling down this page to learn more about our process during odour remediation, as well as some quick steps that you can take.
We're here to help
If you have an odour situation that needs resolution, contact DKI-Pro Pacific and we'll do our best to have you come up smelling like roses.
Our Process
The following steps are an example of our odour remediation process. Depending on your own unique situation, these steps may be done in a different order (or not at all).
-
Connect with you
It’s important to realize just how involved some odour elimination projects can be. Once you’ve contacted Pro Pacific, we’ll connect with you to determine if we’ll be able to help in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
-
Assess the situation
Our next step will be to send a crew to your home or business to inspect the site and assess the odour you would like to have eliminated. We will also explain any health risks presented by the cause of the odour (and the resulting foul smell).
-
Provide a quote
After we’ve assessed your site, a Project Manager will draft you a detailed quote that explains the steps (and costs) involved with your cleaning project.
-
Get work authorization
Once we have the go-ahead to begin work, we will require that you sign authorization papers that provide our team with legal access to your site.
-
Remove, clean, seal
Depending on your situation, we will next: (a) remove the source of the smell (if still present) as well as any materials and surfaces that have been contaminated (unless we are able to clean them sufficiently to remove the odour); (b) clean all affected surfaces and materials using professional cleaning equipment and products; and (c) seal all surfaces as necessary to prevent the smell from resurfacing.
-
Restore & rebuild
When dealing with harsh odours, it’s common to have to remove carpets, drywall, cabinets, and other major items within your property. Depending on the steps we had to take to eradicate the odour, we will next restore, repair, or rebuild any areas that were affected by the project.
Steps to Take
The following are examples of steps you can take if you have experienced foul or harmful odours. These steps are provided as guidelines only, and may not apply to every scenario. Safety should always be your #1 priority.

Mask the odour
You can try to mask the odour with a different odour, such as using a household product like Febreze®. As you probably know, this step usually doesn’t work with most pungent smells, nor does it address the actual cause of the odour problem.
Clean affected areas
When household products fail, you can attempt to clean the areas that are affected by the odour using commercial-grade cleaners, such as those found at a janitorial store. From floor to ceiling, every nook and cranny should be inspected and wiped down.
Remove the items
If the odour is being emitted by a piece of furniture, clothing, or carpet, you can remove the item from the area to eliminate the source of the smell. Completely eliminating some odours may require removing items like cabinets and drywall.
