OUR PROCESS

NOTE  Depending on your situation, the following steps may be done in a different order (or not at all).

Email or call (877) 755-9966.

STEPS TO TAKE

NOTE  These steps are provided as guidelines only, and may not apply to every scenario. Safety is always the #1 priority.

1 Call

Whether you require emergency services during a storm, or need restoration services after the damage is done, call our 24-hour line at (877) 755-9966. We will arrange to have our crew on-site as soon as possible.

2 Wait

It might be tempting to make repairs yourself, but damages caused by a storm or high winds is best left for the professionals. Avoid mold and further damages down the road by having it restored right, the first time.

3 Power Down

Watch for downed power lines and exposed wires, especially in areas where water is also present (don’t touch!). Avoid using any electricity, including electrical appliances, until the area is deemed to be safe.

4 Be Aware

Watch and listen for sparks caused by electricity, and pay attention to damaged areas for exposed nails, broken glass, and other hazards. Smell for gas leaks or smoke, and avoid the damaged areas until they have been assessed properly.

Power Outage Tips

Storms can appear out of nowhere and may cause unexpected power outages. The following are a few ideas to consider when preparing for a storm or high winds.

  • Protect – With all of the technology we depend on today, make sure your outlets have surge protectors to prevent damage from a power outage. You may also want to consider a battery back-up, or UPS, for your desktop computer(s) to prevent data loss.
  • Build – Create an emergency kit with a few essentials to survive a power outage and bad weather. Examples would be candles, flashlights, a battery operated radio, extra batteries, ready-to-eat food options, cards, games, blankets, and clothing.
  • Look – Go outside and check out other houses in the neighbourhood. If you are the only one without power, check your circuit breakers or fuses.
  • Listen – If your neighbourhood is out of power, use your battery powered radio to check out a local station for storm and power outage updates.
  • Phone – Keep a list of local emergency phone numbers and a corded telephone in a convenient, easy-to-find (and remember) location. To contact BC Hydro call 1-888-POWERON from a landline or *HYDRO (*49376) from your cell phone.
  • Things to Do – Turn off electric appliances, especially heaters and all lights - keep one interior and one exterior light on. The interior light will inform you when the power is back, and the exterior light will inform BC Hydro workers power has returned to the area.
  • Things to Avoid – Fallen power lines or sparking wires are very unsafe and require a professional to move and repair them. Please report any hazards to BC Hydro immediately.
